Question Number: 12384Law 14 - Penalty kick 3/18/2006RE: 7 Under 19 Neil Neophytou of London, United Kingdom asks...I awarded a penalty kick. As I ensured all players were the correct distance away from the penalty mark, the attacking sides kicker took the penalty without me or the goalkeeper being ready. He shot wide of the goal so I awarded a goal kick. According to the LOTG should the kick have been re-taken as no signal was made by the referee for the kick to be taken. Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino The kick should be taken again. That said, since the taker of the kick tried to cheat, you probably did give a signal didn't you?

Still in awarding a PK I always hold onto the ball until everyone ids in position and toss it to the PK kicker to set and go . If I use my whistle I CLEARLY TELL the kicker and all else concerned in a no nonsense fashion that only a complete goomba could ignorel
Personally My signal was a silent admission it was ok. and the resulting GOAL KICK is not likely to draw any complaints except from the assessor unlees you really did signal in someway;o) Cheers
