Question Number: 1250Law 14 - Penalty kick 10/17/2000RE: Rec Under 10 Richard Parr of Sacramento, CA USA asks...A penalty kick was awarded due to a tackle from behind in the penalty area. The offensive player took the PK and the goalkeeper stopped it. However, the goalkeeper advanced off the goal line so the referees said to re-kick the PK. A different offensive player took the re-kick and it went past the keeper past the goal line for an apparent goal. But since it was a different offensive player that took the re-kick the referees said that the goal didn't count and that the original offensive player had to do another re-kick. The original offensive player took the second re-kick and made the goal. Question: Were the referees correct in saying that the original offensive player had to be the one to re-kick the PK? Answer provided by Referee Starr 10/18/2000Any player from the attacking team, including the goalkeeper, may take a penalty kick at any time as long as he has been identified as the kicker to the referee. The referees in this case were incorrect in their decision.
