Question Number: 12919

Kicks From The Penalty mark 5/29/2006

RE: select Under 19

Ben Glass of Fairfax, VA usa asks...

During kicks from the penalty spot to decide a tie game, you send of the GK for some good reason. Where does the new GK come from? Those on the field at the end? The substitutes bench (assuming team has not used it allotment of subs)? Assuming the team has an eligible substitute GK, may that player replace a player that had already taken a kick? Does it matter?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The only time the keeper may be substituted for by a player not eligible to take a kick, (i.e. a player not on the field at the end of the game), is if the keeper is injured. If he's sent off, one of his teammates that is on the field must take his place.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The goalkeeper may be replaced by a substitute, should substitutes remain, if he is injured and only if that is the case. If sent-off an outfield player will assume the duties as goalkeeper.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

One of the keepers teammates on the field must take his place. If the keeper is injured then a substitute can come on from the bench. A loop hole to this would be if the NEW keeper "faked" an injury to allow a substitute to take the position of the keeper. As Always,
