Question Number: 13246Kicks From The Penalty mark 7/1/2006RE: Adult Mary of Penllyn, PA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 13181 What happens if after the five (per side) penalty kicks are taken and the score is still tied? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson HI Mary, if after the 5 shots the two teams are tied we are into SUDDEN death PKs. This is a series of alternating equal opportunity shots on goal, until one team scores and the other teams misses.
The remaining players on the field that have not yet taken a PK are all eligable to have a go at 6 th Pk .
One player from each team steps up and has a go ,if they both miss or they both score we are still tied and a 7th PK shot must occur!
Again one player from each team who has not YET taken any pks steps up and they each have a shot. IF they both score or they both miss we are on to the 8th shot and so on up until the last player who has not yet taken a PK shot.
If after the last two players have their turn the teams are still tied. ANY of the remaining players are eligable to take the 12th shot as everyone on the pitch has had a turn. The order is not set only the fact that no player can take another PK until all his teammates have also shot the same amount .
I once presided over a match that went to the 19th PK shot before a winner was decided. Cheers
