Mechanics 3/21/2007

RE: Rec and select Under 13

Willie Rodriguez of Cleburne, TX asks...

Can a keeper's body be across the goal box and he handle the ball as long as he handles it inside the box? i.e. The keeper slides on the ball and his feet cross the line but his hands are still inside the box.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

It is all about where the ball is. If the ball is in penalty area, then the keeper can handle the ball even if his body is outside. The position of the ball is all that matters.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Willie think ball inside or outside the penalty area, forget where the goalkeeper is. Things get way more simple that way.

Answer provided by Referee Nathan Lacy

It is the position of the ball that matters - nothing else. If the ball is inside the PA then there is no infraction in this case. All the best,
