Question Number: 15854Character, Attitude and Control 6/22/2007RE: Competative Under 14 Guido Chayan of Melbourne, Victoria Australia asks...I don't know if you have watched the Australian A-League, but during one of Melbourne Victory's (champs) matches something happened that would go down in history as a really embarrassing moment for our rivals coach. The ball went out of play for a throw in, as Adelaide United was leading 0 - 1 with only minutes left, Melb. Victory's captain went to get the ball that had been caught on the ground by their coach, as the captain went into the technical area to grab the ball he accidentally bumped shoulders with their coach causing the coach to fall off his chair dramatically, their coach got up and grabbed the captain's neck to look as if he was strangling the captain. The ref immediately stopped play and gave the captain a yellow card, and he later sent the coach to the stands. Was the yellow card correctly given? cause that later on made the captain miss a game for suspension. I thought the yellow card was unfair.
Thank You Guido Chayan
Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Had to be there. Certainly the referee was well grounded in Law to issue a caution if he felt the captain instigated the contact or did anything else unsporting. Why did he miss a game for a caution?
