Question Number: 16365Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 8/19/2007RE: class I Under 17 javier renteria of merced, ca us asks...a pk was awarded to attacking team. the pk was taken, the ball block by def goal keeper, the ball bound ball to one of the attacking player, as was ready to shoot he was foul from behind by one of the def player on the penalty area. Refer award another pk. the coach from the def team came unglude and started to yell at the center refer. that was the wrong call. Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney Tsk. Why is it when coaches have their players do something stupid, it is the referee's fault when the player gets caught? Sounds like you had a very good referee, one with courage and conviction. One with less experience and/or courage would have missed the foul or 'judged' it to have occurred outside of the penalty area, which is exactly what the coach and his player were hoping would happen. Like Referee Voshol, I hope the referee's report is read by the right people and the coach's irresponsible behavior is dealt with so he can no longer ruin the beautiful game.

View Referee Michelle Maloney profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol The coach was wrong twice. First, it was a foul and it was in the penalty area, so the restart would be another penalty kick. Then he decided to act in an irresponsible manner by yelling at the referee, so he should have been dismissed from the field. Hopefully the referee wrote up a good report that will get the coach the long suspension that he deserves.
