Question Number: 17343Mechanics 10/16/2007RE: Comp. Under 14 Philip of Houston, TX USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 17320 What is the restart position for the delayed offside call? In this example the offside player ran across the field to make a play for the ball? Would the restart be all the way back toward midfield and also across to the other side of the pitch?
I take it the AR needs to have a rough idea of where on the field offside player was initially located.
Thanks Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Actually the Assistant needs to know EXACTLY where on the field the offside player was when the ball was last touched or played by his side. That is the point of the restart as well. You can NEVER sell a restart for offside inside a player's own half of the field because Law 11 says offside offence happens only in the opponent's half of the field.

So, you need to ask yourself where that player was when he went from being in an offside position to being involved and offside. It is at that point, spot on the field that the IDFK for the defense will/should be given - even if the flag was delayed to make sure there was involvement.
