Question Number: 20120Character, Attitude and Control 9/30/2008RE: Youth Other Austin Baitman of Woodstock, Illinois USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 20095 Follow up to 20095. Ref Dawson stated 'I could suspend a match temporarily to await police if required.' That's exactly what I do. To be technical, in my view, the match is suspended from the instant my expulsion is issued. Once I get to the count of 20, the police are called if the now-expelled idiotic coach or parent has not left the pitch and its immediate surrounds. Please note for clarity that the civil/criminal laws of my jurisdiction, and their relevant interpretations, DO state that a spectator who refuses a referee's order to leave a sporting contest is in violation of disorderly conduct and/or trespass laws. My AYSO region IS aware of this, and though they do not put it in writing, they DO favor it, I having gotten the nod from the AYSO regional commissioner himself. I probably have one of the most agressive technical/spectator area control polices ever, but if its legal, it lets the kids play, and the region has no issues, I will do it. Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney While I don't have any real issues with your protocol, and support most efforts to keep coaches and spectators from ruining the game for the kids, I'm curious as to how your protocol is conveyed to the teams and the public in attendance?
