Team A kicks off and shoots, as the ball is in the air the referee blows the whistle to end the game. If the ball goes in the opositions net does the goal count?

Ian

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Tim
When the whistle sounds the game has ended and no further play is allowed. So in the sitaution you describe no goal can be awarded.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Ian, the whistle is a signal that play has stopped. In this case, the game was over. If after the referee has ended the game the ball goes into the net, a goal CANNOT be awarded.

One may debate if the whistle SHOULD have been blown but there is no debate concerning counting the goal. The ball was not in play. No goal.

Thanks for the question

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

The goal does not count. The ball was whistled dead before it reached the net because in the referee's esteemed opinion, all the time allotted for the match, plus whatever time had to be added to make up for time lost during play had expired. When it expires, the game is done and that is announced with the whistle.
