Question Number: 1282

Pre-Game 10/23/2000

RE: College / HS College

John Leavy of NYC, NISOA US asks...

Could you please suggest a short and to the point format for pregame instructions to A/Rs.

Answer provided by Referee burbidge 10/23/2000

Instructions and comments are helpful for your ARs. Instructions that are to the point would be: 1) stay with the second last defender at all times and 2) watch out for fouls/misconduct behind my back that I can't see. Comments could be that further to the #2 instruction, we work as a team. Trust between officials as well as respect is crucial so that the game can be well refereed. Your question is an excellent one, thanks for writing in and best of luck.
