Question Number: 18658Character, Attitude and Control 3/31/2008Avery Haskell of Overland Park, KS USA asks...Is spitting on your hand before the post game handshake a red card? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Avery if witnessed by the officials it is a form of misconduct and a send off offence as well as disgusting. As this could occur on the field even after the match being shown the red card is quite possible as the players are STILL under the jurisdiction of the referee! Yes there are cultures where this is a pact handshake but on the soccer field this simply does not fly in my opinion!

View Referee Steve Montanino profile Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino ACtually had this happen at a U16 rec girls game. To me, was the same as spitting at an opponent and after the first red card the rest of the young ladies wiped their hands before the handshake.
