Question Number: 18839Law 4 - Players Equipment 4/21/2008RE: High School Varsity Rich Allen of Cantrall, IL USA asks...I'm the scorekeeper/parent. This afternoon, our opponent used girls that were listed under the wrong numbers on the roster. They also had two number 23's on the field at the same time. Aside from confusing the you know what out of me, is there some sort of penalty for this? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer NHFS rules require players wear two matching numbers on their jersey. The rules require the numbers be different. They require the numbers be listed on the teams roster of players. The roster is to be in the referee's hand not later than 15 minutes before the match begins. As a scorekeeper you must determine if the player reporting to you is a legal player before signalling for a substitution. You have the opportunity to correct things when they report. The referee will have to mention these discrepancies in his match report.
I have required players wearing the same number to leave the field and correct their equipment. I have refused to allow a goal when scored by a team having two players with the same number.
Regards,
