Question Number: 18923Law 4 - Players Equipment 4/29/2008RE: High School Stacey Mallison of San Jose, CA USA asks...One of my players recently injured her ACL. Her doctor said she does not need surgury but says that she shouls wear a knee brace to provide support. Will she be permitted to play if she wears a knee brace (it's made by Donjoy and the model is Female Fource). There is not metal on the brace; it is made of hard plastic. Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Stacey let me WARN you with ladiers the ACL is the number one carrer ending injury, if the ACL is not 100% and it can heal my suggestion is do not play! In my carrer as a referee and as a coach I have packed off the pitch over 1/2 doz ladies who will never play again! Cheers

View Referee Richard Dawson profile Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Stacy, you're going to need a written and signed physician's MD/DO permission to compete, a cover made from material described in Rule 4.2.1.c of the NFHS 2008 Soccer Rules and the referee thinking the brace is not dangerous to the player or another player in order to play. It makes no difference who makes the brace, what it is constructed using or how it is worn, those are the wickets you must pass before playing. If the player is at all talented and will go further along in The Game it would be wise to take care of the injury now rather than later.
Regards,
