Question Number: 19026League Specific 5/8/2008RE: recreational Under 13 Ron of Oshawa, Ontario Canada asks...Can a player kick the ball back to his goalie as part of a play? How many kids are allowed on the field from each team? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Kicking the ball to the keeper - often it's a good option, called a back pass. The keeper can then clear it upfield. If the ball is deliberately kicked by a teammate the keeper can't handle the ball. She must play it by foot.
Usually at U13, teams are playing 11 v 11. The 11 counts the goalkeeper. Check your league rules however; there are rules for "small-sided" soccer usually used for younger children, where there may be as few as 3 or 4 on the field per team - and often they do not use a goalkeeper at the very youngest ages (e.g. U6).

The keeper is free to kick the ball. Here, we play 11 v 11 at U13 Select. Our U12 Rec teams play 8 v 8
