Law 9 - The Ball in and out of Play 4/23/2009

RE: Competitive Under 17

Bob Holton of Fort gibson, Ok USA asks...

If the keeper has possession of the ball and steps out of bounds with one foot, but BALL does not cross the line...what would the call be?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

There better be NO call as nothing has occurred to stop play!
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

OK. Something must have happened on television somewhere as we are getting bombarded with this question. Where the FEET are is always totally unimportant when considering a handling violation. If the ball is in contact with the hand and is INSIDE the penalty area, there is no infraction. On the other hand, if the ball and hand are totally outside the penalty area and the feet inside the penalty area, the keeper has deliberately handled the ball
