RE: Adult

Mahdi farsi of Tehran, Iran asks...

I have a question.
Is it possible for a referee or his/her assistant having ring on fingers? Some referees in Iran recommend that referee should not slick ring.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

The Interpretation and Guidelines section of the Laws of the Game says (page 64): 'Referees are also prohibited from wearing jewellery (except for a watch or similar device for timing the match).'

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

If you wish to advance as a referee, wearing anything other than two watches will keep you from looking professional. A simple wedding band is about the only exception I can think of, and even that is not a certainty.

Best practice - leave all jewelry except your watches at home. If you are wearing some form of medical alert jewelry, that would be exempted.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

FIFA says no jewelry, and this is now the expectation for those seeking higher levels.

At the far lower levels I do, a simple gold ring stays on my finger in honor of she who supports me. YMMV.
