RE: AMA Adult

Andrew of Nottingham , Nottinghamshire Uk asks...

This question is a follow up to question 123

Does a player have to remain in the 18 yard box if the goalkeeper goes forward for a corner. If the keeper scores and no one is in the 18 yard box does the goal stand?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Andrew
Yes the goal stands
There is no requirement for the goalkeeper to remain inside his penalty area. He can play outfield if he so wishes. He must though wear the goalkeeper's jersey and be identified as the goalkeeper.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Sure. The keeper may go anywhere on the field as long as he remains the player in the funny colored shirt which clearly identifies him as the goalkeeper. Of course, outside his own penalty area he has no special privileges. No one has to babysit the goal although it may be a good idea to have a player standing in goal if the keeper decides to take off
