Law 16 - Goal Kick 8/4/2015

RE: N/A Other

Liam O'Brien of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire United Kingdom asks...

This question is a follow up to question 29577

This question was actually referred to FIFA by a referee who posts on another refereeing website. His email and their reply are quoted below.

'Dear Mr. B.....,

Yes, as for any kick the ball has to be stationary (e.g. free kick, kick-off, goal kick). If not it has to be repeated.

Thank you for your interest.

Best regards,

Subject: Law 16 - Goal Kick

Name: M.... B......

I would like clarification from IFAB as I am getting many different opinions on Law 16 - Goal Kick.

Does the ball have to be stationary for a Goal Kick?

A simple 'yes' or 'no' answer will suffice.

Many thanks for your contribution. It is probably a measure of how poorly the laws are written that such a simple question is not answered clearly in Law 16.
