Question Number: 32108

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 12/17/2017

RE: Intermediate Under 14

Phil of Tarzana, CA United States asks...

This question is a follow up to question 32104

FWIW, I watched the video (available in the U.S.). The referee had a good look at what happened. I had to watch it at 1/4 speed to see the shirt pull. The MC player, who appeared not to have a shot, as there were numerous defenders between him & the goal, was still able to pass the ball to another MC player.

That other player, who had a better shooting position, dribbled & got a shot off that the keep caught.

It's my understanding that you don't signal advantage in the penalty box. I suspect that the referee saw the incident as trivial, but even if it weren't, it seems like advantage was squandered.

I've noticed that in professional soccer, referees seem to require something blatant before awarding a PK.

Hi Phil
Thanks for your observation. I too agree that referees look for blatant fouls before calling penalty kicks in the PL Pro game.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Phil,
I agree as well.
We like the foul to look impressive yet an unimpressive foul can work exceedingly well. If they get a shot away unless the misconduct is utterly indefensible the pain for gain syndrome is applied!
