RE: NCSL or WAGS competition Under 15

Don Michael of Bowie, Md USA asks...

I am running a line. One of the defensive players in verbally threatening and intimidating an offensive player. Play is continuing down the field and I can't get the centers attention since I want this player dealt with before too much time passes. What is the proper course of action.

Answer provided by Referee Stacy Kalstrom

I would try yelling at the player, then the CR might hear you and know he needs to watch the player. I would continue doing my job as AR until the next stoppage, then get my flag up and get the CR's attention so he can be given the info and knows who to card. ..If you aren't going to reccomend a card, then don't bother the CR. If it isn't card worthy, continue to talk to the player and let him/her know you are watching, aware and part of the referee team...Good luck

Good advice from Referee Kalstrom. I would add that if the beahvior is, in your opinion, serious enough that it should be dealt with immediately, you can raise your flag just as you would had you observed a foul the CR missed. Thanks for the interesting question.
