RE: Pro

John Anderson of Sioux City, IA USA asks...

If a coach is asked to leave the field, but no red card is givin at the point of ejection, does he/she have to sit out the next game.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

This all depends on the dictates of the league in which you play. The league disciplinary committee should read the match report and send off report and determine if a ban is necessary and the length of that ban should one be deemed appropriate. ..Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Victor Matheson

First of all, in professional matches, the red card is not shown to coaching staff when a coach is sent off from the bench. While the rules are nearly universal about red carded players, for coaching staff, there are no universal rules. Professional and semi-pro leagues in the U.S., such as the PDL in which the Des Moines Menace and the former Sioux City Breeze play, do enforce bans for future games when a coach is sent off.
