Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

RE: Competitive Under 15

Bruce W. Romeo of Birmingham, LA USA asks...

What is the penalty when the keeper is in possession of the ball in the box and is charged and knocked out?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Knocked out like in sleeping or knocked out of the penalty area? Both are foul play, but if the keeper is asleep I'm afraid we have serious foul play or violent conduct. Who ever put the keeper to sleep is leaving early. ..If the keeper is pushed or charged out of the penalty area consider it careless, reckless or excessively forceful and act accordingly. ..Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Victor Matheson

I have certainly seen situations where a goalkeeper and a player arrive at the ball at almost the same time with the goalkeeper getting possession just as the attacker is kicking at the ball. This can result in a nasty situation that is punishable by a free kick for the goalkeeper but probably doesn't warrant any additional punishment for the attacker.
