Law 5 - The Referee

RE: pro Adult

Paul of st Marys, MD USA asks...

I just found this article on the Net.My question concerns the indrect kick.. doesn't a deflection(unintentional or not) constitutes "a second touch?"....And why replay the game, do you replay all games where the refs blunder? Your views are appreciated. .---------------------------------------------------------------.**PARIS, Dec 4 (Reuters) - A French second division match between Laval and St Etienne will be replayed after the referee made a mistake over a free kick. ..In the 12th minute of the November 1 game, St Etienne were given an indirect free kick outside the Laval penalty box. ..From the free kick, David Hellebuyck hit the back of the net after the ball took a deflection off a Laval player. The referee disallowed the goal because he said his kick had been direct. ..St Etienne, who eventually lost 2-0, lodged an official complaint and on Thursday the referees' commission ruled in favour of the 10 times champions.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Paul the match is to be replayed because the referee disallowed the goal and was found to be in error somehow. The goal should have been awarded. ..This is a fact connected with play and the referee should have been upheld because his decision is final regarding these facts. Law 5 - The Referee tells us this. Why the match is to be replayed knowing the referee's decision is considered final is a mystery... ..Regards,

I agree why is the game been replayed. Lots of people get upset and continual protest will see more games been replayed, just to get them out of their bickering. Law 5 needs to be upheld or else this could get out of hand.
