Question Number: 8784

Moe of Newcastle, Calif USA asks...

Happy New Year to the panel,..Question is in regards to usage of video in the professional leagues such as EPL. Rooney got three games suspension after the review by FA for his maturing pain. My question is in the game between Spurs and Man U the video clearly showed that Spurs did score a goal. However since the kick was taken from the halfway line and neither the referee nor the AR actually observed the ball entering the net, the goal was not allowed. Does FA have the power of overturning the score or perhaps giving an opportunity for a re-play?..Thanks..Moe

Happy New Year Moe, may you score many goals this year!.What Rooney got was a disciplinary decision and he is paying for it after the game. The goal that Spurs scored was an action during the game and the LOTG do not allow any authority to change the human error committed during the game. The referee?s decision is final. Even the Spurs manager was resigned to that fact. By the way, there are a lot comments on BBC sport website. Gene

There is no telling what could have happened had Spurs scored the goal... they could have been spurred on and scored another 5, or Man U could have been more bothered and gone for the win in the final few minutes, as they often do..Hence why they cannot give the goal after the game..Disciplinary matters are different, it is in FIFA and FA Rules that video evidence can be used to make and support a claim of misconduct...Regards,
