Question Number: 35877Law 4 - The Players Equipment 2/1/2026RE: Adult Michael Surtees of Edinburgh, Scotland asks...Can an outfield player wear gloves with grips to gain an advantage when taking long throw ins?
Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi. Michael Thanks for the question. A referee is not going to be concerned about grips on gloves worn by players which are part of the glove. We see players wear gloves all the time now and referees are not bothered about gloves that might have grips. In an equipment check referees are looking for safety concerns such as jewellery, shin pads, dangerous studs etc. No attention would be paid to gloves including the goalkeepers gloves.
