Question Number: 1022

Ruby Bago of Fresno, CA USA asks...

This is an Adult League question, not that it matters..When Player X from the Blue team is in an offside position on the Red team's field, and Player X goes back to receive a pass from his team made on his side of the field. Is Player X offside?

Answer provided by Referee Victor Matheson

Yes. Since the player was in an offside position at the moment the ball was played by a teammate and since he subsequently played the ball, he is guilty of offside.

Answer provided by Referee miller

A player, by his own actions alone, cannot make himself onside once he has been offside. Only a retouch by a teammate after he returns to an onside position, or possession by an opponent, or a restart of play can accomplish that.
