Question Number: 14095Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/10/2006RE: travel Under 11 Jennifer of barnegat, nj usa asks...two of our coaches are in a disagreement over keeper possession...one says that the keeper has possession if only a finger or one hand is on the ball the other says two hand and control is possession can you please help? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino one finger is enough. Here is FIFA's official answer taken from Law 12 Decision 2 from 2006 Laws Of The Game
Decision 2 The goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball by touching it with any part of his hand or arms. Possession of the ball includes the goalkeeper deliberately parrying the ball, but does not include the circumstances where, in the opinion of the referee, the ball rebounds accidentally from the goalkeeper, for example after he has made a save.
