Question Number: 14773

League Specific 1/31/2007

RE: rec Under 9

angela of hollywood, usa asks...

in the u8 league is it necessary to switch goal keepers at half time?

angela

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

That would be a league-specific rule, you would have to check your bylaws and operating rules. Players at u8 should be experiencing all the positions, so there may be a rule that forces rotation.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Angela,
in my opinion at 8 years old I do not even like a keeper position prefer 5 and 7 aside games with 3 on 3 training. If is VERY important to rotate all players through all positions in the early stages of learning the game. A lot of stress on the last player back letting in goals can weigh heavy un;less steps are taken to prevent this burden of guilt assumed by some, from killing thier love of the game. Keep it fun and interesting !
Cheers
