RE: Select Under 14

Jacqueline Morgan of Newtown, Connecticut USA asks...

Are there any on-line practice tests for Referee certification. My son is re-taking the Grade 8 referee clinic and would like to find some form of practice test. - Thanks

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

None that I know of. The most difficult part of the test was restarts. Tell him to read Advice to Referees cover to cover and then go back over all the restarts.

Personally I do not understand the need for secrecy to a introduction grade 8 test for refereeing but my good friend in England Julian Carosi has a 10 page quiz test that you could give a try
http://www.carosi.freeserve.co.uk/corshamreferee/index.htm if you look on the middle left side of the web page you will see
10 Law Quiz Pages
click and have at her my friend!

As my colleague Kieth expounded the restart of play is a big deal on a written exam, go to your ATR and look over the charts and read through the material. Offside should be basic but remember two parts to it, 3 criteria to think about, restart is where the OFFSIDE attacker WAS at the time of the kick /last touch NOT where he may eventually wind up! Read Ref Fleischer brief article of explanation on our front web page. I suggest you begin your test with two blank piece of paper write 1 to 17 on one page and sketch out the field on the other. Then fill in the 1 to 17 with each law and mark the field as best you can. For me I work well by association, each item brings forth others! As a test method I call it the expanding circle of knowledge where a central theme generates corresponding circles just like a rock thrown into a pool of water. As you write the laws add two important facts to each one
law 12 is your biggie know the penal fouls list 10, indfk offences list 3, to keeper only handling restrictions list 4, cautions list 7 and send off offences list 7
Understand the responsibilities of Law 5 and 6
law 3 the the # of players is important know the sub procedures and the four laws FIFA allows changed for in youth ,women and older age groups Cheers

I might just add not to read anything into the question that is not there. You are giving the "book" answer, something that appears in the Laws, not an interpretation. If the question says X happened, don't think about X+Y happening, even if Y follows X 99% of the time. The question was asking about X.
