Question Number: 14917

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 2/27/2007

RE: indoor Under 17

Susan Hurff of Sewell, NJ USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 12

Team A goalie throws ball out over the players heads. Team B player has back to A goalie and attempts to kick the ball backward over his own head. His foot and leg comes up over his head and he kicks a player from team A in the forehead. Player from team A was standing straight upright and running toward the ball. Is it a foul on player B for dangerous play?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

No, it would be a foul on B for kicking. The restart is a direct free kick, not indirect. A caution for reckless play should also be considered.

This is one of those "would have to be there and see for myself things". It may be anything from play continues because the kick was an accident to a sending-off because excessive force was used. There is also the stopping play for an injury with a dropped ball restart.

Regards,

Without seeing it, it is difficult to decide. The consequence would depend on the intensity and style of the kick. If the referee believes the kick is careless, reckless, or with excessive force, then it would a foul and dfk for opponents. A caution or send off could be issued depending on the referees opinion on whether the kick was carelss, reckless (yellow), or with excessive force (red).

While we need to view it to be certain.
If a player is trying to be a fancy dan he must ensure he is not in a crowd! In any challenge or play for the ball an absolute disreguard for safety is not permitted to go unscathed. Accidents do occur but often carelessness is part of that equation if not reckless or excessive! I will hazard a guess that a DFk out and a possible caution would be more acceptable then PIADM as the contact dismisses PIADM and upgrades to kick an opponent. cheers
