Question Number: 14996Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 3/17/2007RE: Rec Under 11 Bryan Klinck of Franklin, MA USA asks...I have two questions regarding misconduct:
1) A player engages in trash-talking with an opponent (no profanity is used). Would this be considered USB (yellow card) or use of offensive/insulting/abusive language (red card)? Or is it a judgement call by the referee, based on of the nature of the language used?
2) A player who is protesting a call physically bumps a referee. Would this be considered dissent by word or action (yellow card) or violent conduct (red card)? Or, is it again a judgement call by the referee, based on the force of the impact and the preceived intent of the player? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Trash talking is unsporting, plain and simple, and all the player has to do is offer the slightest insult then off he goes. Physically bumping the referee gets a player sent-off coach. Other referees are going to have different opinions but they shouldn't.
Regards,

View Referee Chuck Fleischer profileAnswer provided by Referee Ben Mueller 1. Yes it could or it could be a send off for offensive/abusive/insulting language pending severerit. 2. This is a SERIOUS ACTION and must be written up. The referee must write a detailed report about the REFEREE ABUSE and of course that player is sent off for violent conduct towards a referee. This is very serious and unacceptable. NO QUESTIONS HERE! The player is given a red card if any contact with referee is made physically.
