Question Number: 15067

Law 4 - Players Equipment 3/29/2007

RE: rec Adult

ronnie ord of liverpool, merseyside england asks...

is it a foul for a player if a players boot comes off and he picks it up then reseaves a pass

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The player may continue playing without an item of equipment until such a time as he can replace it, it doesn't have to be immediately but it should be as soon as feasible, given prevailing conditions.

e.g., He is on attack his boot has been "removed" due to some action, not his own. He may continue "that" attack. So too a defender loosing an item of required equipment. Stopping instantly and replacing the item is not within The Spirit of the Game. Replacing it as soon as possible is.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

Ronnie,

This is not a foul, so long as the player doesn't try to use his boot to play the ball while the boot is in his hand. If he did that it the boot would be considered a part of his hand.

Otherwise, so long as the player puts his boot back on within a reasonable amount of time... all should be well with the world.
