Question Number: 15206

Law 11 - Offside 4/17/2007

RE: Under 15

Farah Shaheen of Amman, Jordan asks...

When does a referee call out for an Offside?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The referee will call out for offside when a player participates, in one of the three prohibited manners, after being in an offside position when the ball is last touched by a colleague.

The prohibited things are: interferes with play [touches the ball], interferes with an opponent [causes to move or impedes vision], gains advantage [the ball bounces to him from an opponent, the goals, a match official on the park or the corner flag].

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

If he is in an offside position at moment ball touches teammate and gets involved in active play. Being in an offside position means that the player is closer to goal line than ball and 2nd last defender. Also, that the player is on his attacking half of field.
