Question Number: 15266Law 5 - The Referee 4/24/2007RE: 6 Under 17 daniel tedd of walsall, west midlands england asks...how long does it take to get to the top as i want to reach the top referees Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Daniel it takes as long as necessary to improve your fitness to a point where 3000+ meters in 12 minutes offers no discomfort; passing a written test, not multi-guess or T/F, mind you; passing your referee assessments on professional league matches with grades much higher than your contemporaries; being noticed favourably by your national association; looking well in your uniform; having a bit of luck and of course not being over 40. These things are absolutely necessary. Oh, one more thing; noticed by one of our recent visitors: don't eat too much chocolate or make one [1] mistake...

If you are good and an assessor or instructor notices you, then you will go up faster than if you are not noticed. Get assessed early and try to improve on your key areas. Improve your fitness so that you can run almost 2 miles in 12 minutes and make sure you are clear on all of the laws. Also, very important aspect is -SITUATIONAL AWARENESS which can only be improved with experience. Either way make sure that you are having fun. Good luck!
