Question Number: 15268

Law 4 - Players Equipment 4/24/2007

RE: Select Under 17

Frank Bepko of Guilford, CT USA asks...

Can players wear numbers of players on their sleeves as a show of support?

For instance we had to kids hurt in a car accident and their teamates asked if they can place the injured players numbers on the sleeve. Thanks

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The LOTG do not require or prohibit numbers of any kind. I would certainly honor a team's wishes in this matter and cannot imagine a youth referee that would take exception to this whether allowed by local rules or not. But..... you better check with your club as somewhere out there exists an anal retentive referee that would not let you play if your club prohibited this.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

Does not mention this in LOTG. In fact does not even state that jerseys must have numbers. This is up to your local league.
