Question Number: 15325

Law 7 - Match Duration 4/30/2007

RE: Rec Under 11

Bill McKinley of Malvern, PA USA asks...

At the end of a game, our team had the ball w possession in front of the opposing net with time expiring. The referee blew the whistle once, we shot and scored, then the whistle blew two more times, ending the game. If the sequence of events was as stated, should the goal have counted?

Thanks,

Bill

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

Nope. When time is up...time is up. If ball is not fully over goal line and in net, then its not a goal.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

No. The referee decided that time was up, and blew the whistle accordingly. Time expired when the ref decided it did, which must have been immediately before the first sound of the whistle. We hope that the referee had accurately accounted for any and all time lost during the second half before deciding to end the game at such an exciting point.

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

In the immortal words of James Brown "Turn out the lights the party's over!"

Remember, the match is over as soon as the referee decides it's over, not when you hear the whistle, and it is not even required that the whistle be blown when the game ends.

Sorry.
