Question Number: 15327Law 14 - Penalty kick 4/30/2007RE: Rec Under 15 Angela of houma, la usa asks...This question is a follow up to question 15339 In our game today, the other team had a penalty kick (inside the box). When the guy kicked it the goalie didn't catch it he knocked it out. Well the same guy who kicked the penalty kick kicked it again and scored, but the ref did call the goal back and they didn't get the point. Later on the other teams coach protested the game and we had to play again. So can the same player who kicks the penalty kick kick the ball again and score? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol BRSU (Basic Referee Screw-Up). Law 14 says the player taking the kick "does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player". The goalkeeper is a player.
Since the referee made a mistake in applying the Laws the protest was upheld. If the referee had made a mistake in judgement - say he thought the ball bounced off the goal, not the keeper - the protest would not have gone through. The remedy for a protested game is to replay it.
