RE: Competive Club soccer Under G16

Alex of Monrovia, ca la asks...

Can a referee ask a goalie (or any other field player) to leave for dry heaving or vomitting?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The referee may stop play and refuse to restart play until the player has left the field to be attended to.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Alex, you can bet money on this referee stopping things for a player blowing chunks, even ladylike chunks! AND she will [not be asked to] depart the field of play AND no other goalkeeper/outfield player will be forced to play on that spot until the mess is cleaned up. The cleaner-upper may be anyone of the player's/coach's choosing, except me or my assistants. It is highly recommended the cleaner-upper not be one who retches at the smell or sight of someone else's mess.

You'll note a referee ensures a player bleeding from a wound leaves the field of play. This was placed in the Laws of the Game to prevent the spread of communicable disease. It is my opinion blowing chunks falls in this category, and I am unanimous in this opinion...

Regards,
