Question Number: 15444Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/10/2007RE: competitive Under 15 Al of Belmar, NJ USA asks...I know that players are allowed to be off the FOP when playing the ball in the normal course of play. And the taker of the corner kick is off the FOP, also.
But can an attacker near mid field being closely marked by a defender run off the FOP for ten yards to avoid the defender and then come back on to capture a through ball?
Rufe Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Yes, that is allowed.
You mention the player runs ahead a distance of 10 yards. If he had stayed on the field, this might have put him in an offside position. To evaluate offside he should be considered to be on the field at the nearest point.
