Question Number: 15448

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/10/2007

RE: house league Under 15

Chirs of toronto, ontario canada asks...

what do you do for a red or a yellow card?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Do you mean what kind of behavior results in cards? Law 12 lists 7 offenses for players, and 3 for substitutes, which will result in cautions (yellow card). There are 7 offenses for players or substitutes which result in a send off (red card).

When a player is cautioned and shown the yellow card, he is told by the referee that his behavior is unacceptable, and if repeated he will be sent off.

When a player is sent off and shown the red card, he cannot take any further part in the game. He is not replaced by a substitute; his team must "play down". He must also remove himself from the sidelines and area surrounding the field. If the player is a youth, he will be allowed to stay with the team if there is no adult available to supervise him away from the field. He will also be suspended for at least one additional game, or more depending on the offense and the decisions of a disciplinary board.
