Question Number: 15450Law 11 - Offside 5/10/2007RE: club team Under 17 Bryan of Naperville , IL United States asks...I have a question regarding the offsides rule. If a player is on a break away and he is coming up the field on the goalie's left hand side of the field and there is a teammate in an offside position on the goalies right hand side. would the other player be concitered "involved" in the play because their presence affects the goalies positioning in a situation like this with a 2 on 1(goalie) situaition. My opinion as a goalie is yes he is offsides and the play should be called dead. What is your opinion or what does FIFA say about this? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer If you choose to pay attention to the other player then YOU have chosen to involve him. He must be active in his involvement. Law 11 states "It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position". Trust the referee to handle him, you concentrate on the guy with the ball, that's your job. The referee's job is to enforce the Laws. He won't do yours, you keep out of his..
