Question Number: 15520

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/19/2007

andrew Graham of auckland, New Zealand asks...

At the beginning of the 2nd half I checked that both teams were ready to kick off which they acknowledged. Upon blowing me whistle the striker for the team kicking off yelled 'Hold on our keeper needs a cap to shade from the sun. I stated a substitute could take it to the goalie. He then stated 'That's o.k. I just won't kick it until we ready'
What is the call... a caution for the player? How do we restart the game?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Use common sense. Game hasn't started yet so just wait until the keeper has his hat. Then start the game

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

If Wal-Mart has invaded N.Z. common sense is available there AND on odd numbered Thursday's it's on roll-back for a much better price.

One must not start out trying to find something bad to deal with, those chances will show themselves soon enough. When you find out the keeper has forgotten his hat it's time to engage the players closest to you in idle conversation, they see you're human.

Regards,
