Question Number: 15526

Law 11 - Offside 5/19/2007

RE: Under 15

Matty of london, England asks...

in the recent uefa cup final (seville vs Espanyol) a corner was took and the keeper came out to catch the ball but didnt. the attacking team's striker headed the ball to a teammate who was inbetween the goal and every player except 1 who was on the goalline(not the keeper - but the defending teams player).

The goal was ruled offside is this correct???

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Sure sounds correct to me - you said he was ahead of "every player except 1". The offside offense, found in Law 11, mentions 2 opponents. Most times one of them is the goalkeeper, but not always.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

If what you're getting at is the possibility of offside then yes; it's possible. However, the referees on the match drew another conclusion and they are ultimately responsible for facts connected with play.
