Question Number: 15581Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/23/2007RE: Rec Adult Mike of Winnipeg, Manitoba Country asks...If a defender slides in to tackle a player with studs showing at ground level and makes contact only with the ball and not the player would you still call this a dangerous play since the studs were leading on the tackle? Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller Probably not. Would need to see to know for sure. Field conditions can influence this decision and the angle and control that the player had coming in on the tackle does too.

View Referee Ben Mueller profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol In addition, it is Playing in a Dangerous Manner only if the play causes the opponent to hold back in fear of being injured (or of injuring, in other situations). At the youngest levels we are proactive because the players do not have the capacity to realize the seriousness of some situations. If an adult chooses to play through a tackle by an opponent, that's his choice. If the opponent ends up kicking or tripping him, the ref will deal with it.
