Question Number: 15646Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/29/2007RE: Recreational Under 13 Frank of Toronto, Canada asks...At my son's last game, a parent yelled out to his son, who was playing right back, not to go over centre. I inquired as to why and was told it's the rule!! I begged to differ but was told by other parents this was true. I suggested this must be the coaches rule for the team or a league specific rule but was assured that we play by international rules. Rather than argue I let it go but would like to confirm that indeed this is not an international rule.
Thank You. Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller Not in Laws of the Game. Players can go where they want. Perhaps this was a team policy or a parent coaching on positioning.

Perhaps it was the coach's own rule for his team...

While contary to the notion a player can roam the field it is a choice, a poor one at that and certainly not a law of any sort ! Cheers
