Question Number: 15674Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 6/2/2007RE: B Grade Under 12 Guy Bridson of Wellington , New Zealand asks...My Team was penalised today for a Goal kick.
The Goalie kicked the ball to a defender who was outside the penalty box. This player then passed the ball back to the goalie who picked it up and bunted it forward. Is this legal?
When can a player pass the ball back to the Goalie like this? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Your team wasn't penalized for the goal kick. Instead it was because the goalkeeper picked up the ball after it had been deliberately kicked to him by a teammate. Players can always pass the ball to the keeper, he just can't use his hands then.
Here is the relevant section of Law 12: An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper, inside his own penalty area, commits any of the following four offences: ? takes more than six seconds while controlling the ball with his hands before releasing it from his possession ? touches the ball again with his hands after it has been released from his possession and has not touched any other player ? touches the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a team-mate ? touches the ball with his hands after he has received it directly from a throw-in taken by a team-mate

Your guys must have done something else to incur sanction. Perhaps the referee saw your player deliberately kick the ball to the goalkeeper. If that's the case your keeper may not use his hands without penalty of an indirect free kick against.
Regards,
