Question Number: 15732

Law 4 - Players Equipment 6/9/2007

RE: AYSO Under 6

Diana Verba of New Florence, PA USA asks...

What is the correct way to wear shin gaurds and soccer socks?

I thought the socks go on first, the shin gaurds next, and then you fold the sock over the gaurd. Isn't that why soccer socks are so long???

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Stockings are so long because gentlemen never allowed their legs to show even if styles tended to short trousers. The shinguard is covered entirely by the stocking that means the referee may deny entry to the field if any part of the shinguard is visible or becomes visible during the match. If you must have something between the leg and shinguard by all means wear a second stocking, affix the shinguard to that and cover everything with the uniform stocking. I asked my youngest players to were two stockings; the inner was pulled down over the shinguard and the outer was tucked between the inner and the leg. The result was huge calves and an intimidation factor worth every penny spent for the extra socks AND shinguards that didn't show or come out!

Regards,

Nope. Socks over shin guards COMPLETLY! Socks hold the shin guards in place.
