Question Number: 15733Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 6/9/2007RE: High School Co-ed Ohio High School CJ B. of Ironton, oh usa asks...This question is a follow up to question 15714 I was at this game [15714] and observed this collision, is the goalie not expected to defend his/her position by removing the ball? If this goalie did not run full speed to kick and remove the ball she would not have made the play. The ball was approximately 2 feet in front of the opposing foward who was also running at good speed. Unfortunately, someone was injured, but in this instance the players were evenly matched size wise, the foward may have even been taller, and either player could have been injured. The player that commented should have remained quiet. I feel there was a lot of frustration. Are fans permitted to sit or stand on the sidelines behind the 18 in this type of game? One was also permitted to stand behind the goal box. Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Back to front, in USA high school spectators are not permitted on the goal line unless in the stands. We all tend to speak when inappropriate. Injuries happen when there is no foul play.
Football is a competitive sport and physical contact between the players is a normal and acceptable part of the game, however players must play within the Laws and respect the principles of fair play.
