Question Number: 15870Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 6/23/2007RE: Rec Under 15 Alexander of Kursk, Russia asks...Q: May a player attack the goalkeeper, if the goalkeeper held down the ball to the ground with both hands? Which conditions allow a player to attack the keeper? Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller A player cannot prevent keeper from releasing ball. Once keeper has possession, he may not be challenged. Possession is defined as 1 finger between ball and ground (with ball in control). If the keeper is challenged when he has possession, IFK for his team. If the keeper does not have control, then it is anybody's ball. Referee must evaluate who if any caused the foul or if the players simply collided. Hope this helps!

Once a goal keeper has the ball in possession with their hands, the opponent cannot continue their challenge for the ball. Ref Mueller has described for you goal keeper possession.
